Hey Golf Friend!
Hope your week's been solid and you're gearing up for some weekend golf.
I know you've probably been analyzing your last round (classic move), but let's take a break from the spreadsheets and dive into what's actually happening in the golf world.
Speaking of analyzing... did you catch our X (Twitter) thread about golf industry secrets? Turns out a lot of us have been getting played by the equipment companies. But more on that later.
Grab your coffee ☕ and let's get into it.

Charlie Woods Gets His First Win 🏆
The News: Tiger's 16-year-old son Charlie just won his first AJGA tournament at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida. Shot 15-under over three rounds, including a final-round 66 to win by three strokes.
What This REALLY Means for You:
Look, I get it. Watching a 16-year-old shoot 15-under while you're still trying to break 90 can be... humbling. But here's the thing that most people miss:
Charlie has been playing competitive golf since he was 8. That's 8 years of structured practice, professional coaching, and playing with one of the greatest golfers ever. Meanwhile, you picked up golf at 45 while juggling a career and family.
The Real Lesson: Progress isn't about comparing yourself to prodigies. It's about being better than you were last month. Charlie's win reminds us that consistency and proper fundamentals (which you can learn at any age) beat raw talent every time.
Your Takeaway: Stop comparing your weekend warrior journey to anyone else's. Focus on YOUR improvement curve.

PGA Tour Finally Fixes the Tour Championship 🔄
The News: The PGA Tour announced they're eliminating the controversial "starting strokes" format from the Tour Championship. Starting in 2025, all 30 players will begin at even par instead of the leader getting a 2-shot head start.
Mike's Translation:
Remember when they changed this format a few years ago and everyone complained it was confusing? Well, they finally listened. The old system was like giving the best player in your weekend foursome a 2-shot head start before you even tee off.
What This REALLY Means for You:
This change reflects something important: golf is best when it's pure competition, not manufactured drama. The same applies to your game. Stop looking for shortcuts, gimmicks, or "revolutionary" swing tips that promise instant results.
Focus on fundamentals, not gimmicks. The basics work for pros, and they'll work for you.
This Weekend's Focus: Course Management 🎯

Forget about that new driver you've been eyeing…
Forget about fixing your swing plane…
This weekend, I want you to focus on ONE thing: playing within your capabilities.
Here's Your Simple Weekend Strategy:
Tee shots: Aim for the widest part of the fairway, not the pin
Approach shots: Always take one more club than you think you need
Around the greens: Choose the shot with the highest success rate, not the hero shot
Why This Works for 50+ Golfers:
Your body might not generate the clubhead speed it used to, but your brain is sharper than any 25-year-old's. Use that advantage. Smart course management can easily save you 5-7 strokes per round.
The Mike Test: Before every shot, ask yourself: "What would an engineer do?" Choose the highest-percentage play, not the most exciting one.
Your Weekend Motivation 💪
Here's something that might surprise you:
the average golfer your age who sticks with the game for 5+ years eventually shoots their personal best score after age 50.
Why?
Because you finally stop trying to be Tiger Woods and start playing YOUR game.
This weekend, remember:
•Every pro was once a beginner
•Every expert was once a disaster
•Every good round starts with managing expectations
You're not trying to qualify for the Masters. You're trying to enjoy 4 hours outside with friends while gradually getting better at a ridiculously difficult game.
That's not settling for mediocrity. That's being smart about your goals.
Go show that course what life experience can do. 🏌️♂️
